We run seamless aluminium off a machine on the truck, cut to the length of your run, so the only joints are at corners and outlets. Sectional gutter from a store is joined every ten feet and every one of those joints is a future leak.

Five inch K-style is the residential default and it is fine for most Aurora roofs. Six inch, with three by four inch downspouts instead of two by three, moves roughly forty percent more water and is the right call on a steep roof, a large roof area draining to few outlets, or anywhere you have had overflow before. Half-round is available and belongs on the older homes near the river where K-style looks wrong.

The bit that actually matters and that most quotes ignore: sizing the downspouts to the roof area they serve, not to habit. Two downspouts on a run that needs four will overflow every heavy storm no matter how clean the gutter is, and people spend years cleaning a gutter that was never the problem.

Fascia and Soffit Are Roof Components

Fascia is what the gutter hangs on. Once it is soft, the gutter has nothing solid to fix to, and screwing new gutter to rotten fascia is a repair with a shelf life of about eighteen months. We replace rotted boards rather than covering them with aluminium wrap, which is the shortcut that hides the problem until it spreads.

Soffit matters for a reason people rarely connect: it is your attic's intake ventilation. Aurora requires a ventilation sheet with every roofing permit and wants intake at fifty to sixty percent of the total net free vent area. That intake comes through the soffit. Solid soffit panels, or vented panels with blown insulation packed against them from inside, mean your ridge vent has nothing to draw and the whole system does nothing.

Gutter Guards: The Honest Version

They reduce cleaning. They do not eliminate it. Anyone telling you a guard means you never touch your gutters again is selling.

Fine mesh and micro-mesh work well against leaves and reasonably against shingle grit. Reverse-curve systems shed heavy rain over the front in a real downpour. Foam inserts clog with fine debris and hold moisture against the fascia, and we generally advise against them.

Where guards genuinely pay for themselves is under mature trees, which describes a lot of the older streets in Aurora, Batavia and Geneva. Under a young subdivision with no canopy, spend the money on correctly sized downspouts instead and clean them twice a year.
