Roofing Contractors in Aurora, IL

We are a family-run roofing contractor working out of a shop at 420 Hill Ave on Aurora's east side. Started in 2009, still the same people, still the same phone number.

Before this, Rick spent nine years running crews for one of the big exterior restoration outfits that works the Chicago collar counties, and left because he got tired of quoting people numbers he knew were padded and selling replacements to people who needed repairs. That is not a marketing story, it is why this company exists and why the second-opinion work is a meaningful share of what we do.

Between the three of us on the roof, Rick, Danny and Hector, there is a bit over sixty years of Illinois roofing. Pete runs the trucks and the cleanup and has an unreasonable relationship with the magnet sweeper.

A Note From Rick

I worked nine years for a company that sent me to a lot of doors after storms. Good money, and I got very good at reading a roof, but I also spent a lot of afternoons writing replacement numbers on houses that needed two grand of flashing work, because that was the job and the commission structure did not care what the roof needed.

Started this in 2009 with one truck, my brother-in-law Danny and a compressor I still have. The rule from day one was that we tell people what the roof actually needs, even when what it needs is nothing. I have lost quotes over that and I have also had people call me eleven years later because they remembered. It works out.

We are not the biggest roofer in the Fox Valley and are not trying to be. Four of us, two trucks, and I still get on most roofs myself.

— Rick, Aurora Roofing Company

What Makes Us Different, Concretely

We tell you when you do not need a roof. A meaningful share of our inspections end with "this needs a pipe boot and a valley, see you in four years." That is a much worse business model in the short run and a much better one over fifteen years in a market where everybody knows somebody.

Every claim we make is checkable. Illinois licenses roofers through IDFPR and the register is public: look up any roofing contractor, including us, before you sign anything. Working inside Aurora also means registering with the city and carrying $1,000,000 general aggregate liability with the City of Aurora named as primary and non-contributory additional insured. Ask for the certificate.

We will not touch your deductible. Public Act 96-1113 makes waiving, rebating or absorbing a homeowner's deductible on insurance-funded roofing work illegal in Illinois, and inflating a claim to hide it is fraud under 215 ILCS 5/155.51. Contractors offering it are telling you something about how they run everything else.

Written, itemised estimates that hold for thirty days. Tear-off, decking allowance at a stated per-sheet rate, ice and water shield in inches, underlayment, material, ventilation, permit, disposal. No expiring discount, because that is a sales tactic rather than a price.

Somebody calls you back the same working day. Rick, Danny or Hector. Not a call centre, not a scheduler with a script.

The Big Names You Are Probably Also Considering

Around here that means Erie Metal Roofs, DaBella, Long Roofing and the national exterior brands, plus the larger regional operations like Global Exterior Experts and the long-established local firms like ABC Roofing & Siding, who have been at it since 1991 and do good work. We understand it is overwhelming, and we are not going to pretend the big companies are all cowboys, because they are not.

What we would say is this. The larger the operation, the more of your quote is carrying a showroom, a commissioned sales force and a marketing budget, and the more likely it is that the person who inspects your roof is not the person who fixes it and is paid on what they sell. We are four people. The person who looks at your roof is the person who will be standing on it.

Everything We Do

Roof repair and leak tracing, full tear-off replacement, emergency repair and tarping, free roof inspections and second-opinion estimates, storm, wind and hail damage, insurance claim documentation, asphalt shingle roofing, metal roofing and standing seam, flat and low-slope roofs, TPO, EPDM and rubber membrane, commercial and industrial roofing, cedar shake and slate, gutters, soffit and fascia, roof and attic ventilation, ice dam removal and roof snow clearing, and roof maintenance, coatings and sealing.

Plus the smaller things that do not need their own page: skylight replacement and Velux units, chimney counterflashing and reglet work, kickout flashings, snow guards, ridge and gable vent installation, attic baffle fitting, roof curbs and rooftop equipment flashing, and garage and outbuilding roofs.

Where We Work

Aurora is home, and the service area runs across four counties from there. We cover Naperville, Oswego, Montgomery, North Aurora, Batavia, Geneva, St. Charles, Sugar Grove, Yorkville, Warrenville, West Chicago, Plainfield, Bolingbrook and the towns around them, and there is a page for each of them on the service areas page along with many more cities we serve.

Reviews

Told me I did not need a new roof. Two other companies had quoted replacements. He fixed the flashing and charged me under a thousand.

Gerald T. Gerald T., Batavia

Whole roof in a day. They were here at seven, gone by four, and I could not tell anyone had been in the yard. Only thing I would say is the noise is no joke, take the dog somewhere.

Storm chaser came round first saying he would cover my deductible and get me a full replacement. Rick explained on the phone why that is actually illegal in Illinois, came out the next day, found real hail damage on one slope and documented it for the adjuster. Claim went through for the repair. He could have upsold me and did not.

Come and Find Us

The shop is at 420 Hill Ave on Aurora's east side. It is a shop rather than a showroom, so there is nothing to look at, but if you want to meet somebody before letting them on your roof, that is a perfectly reasonable thing to want and we are happy to do it.

Mon to Fri 7:00am to 6:00pm, Saturday 8:00am to 2:00pm. Emergency tarping outside those hours.

No same-day estimates on Sundays. That is when Pete does the trucks and the rest of us are not working.

About Us: Common Questions

How long have you been roofing in Aurora?

Since 2009, out of the same shop on Hill Ave.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Illinois licenses roofers directly through IDFPR under the Roofing Industry Licensing Act and that register is public, so please look us up rather than taking our word for it. We also carry the general liability the City of Aurora requires of registered roofing contractors, and we will send the certificate before you ask.

Do you use subcontractors?

Our own crews do the roofing. We use a sheet metal fabricator for custom flashing work and an electrician for anything involving heat cable, because those are trades and we are not them.

What area do you cover?

Aurora and the Fox Valley, across Kane, DuPage, Kendall and Will counties. Roughly Sugar Grove and Elburn in the west out to Bolingbrook in the east, Geneva and St. Charles north, Yorkville and Plainfield south.
